Artist Statement — Tibor Cervenak I am a Czech-born artist living in Cardiff for the past 25 years. I studied Fine Art at Bath Spa University and completed my MA at Chelsea School of Arts in London. In 2016, my painting My Monet received the main award for Best Mixed Media Painting at the Royal West of England Academy. My work grows from personal moments, emotions and experiences that stay with me. While I often draw on art history, my paintings arise instinctively, shaped by movement, rhythm and atmosphere rather than by direct representation. Certain themes return throughout my practice: women, horses, architecture and water lilies. Each carries its own emotional resonance — strength, freedom, structure and stillness — and they appear in my work as transformed impressions rather than literal scenes. My paintings reflect this way of working, translating lived experience into colours, form and gesture.
