Artist Statement Trained at Kunstakademie Duesseldorf, Germany, Nadia has explored a wide variety of media in her artistic practice. Currently mainly painting acrylic on canvas in a representational style, her work deals with architecture and the remains of human activity in landscape. Since moving to Crickhowell in early 2024, she has developed a specific focus on the industrial heritage of her direct surroundings and further afield in Wales. Looking beyond the natural beauty, she seeks out sites that speak to the developments that have shaped today's landscape and the people within it. Spending time on location and taking in impressions is an important part of her process. In reference photos, she concentrates on perspective and textures. Starting out with an underlying drawing in the studio, she puts on multiple thin layers of paint with a palette knife, achieving a painterly finish, that is still reminiscent of the source material, but often quite independent in terms of object colour.
