I am a painter of light. I would almost say that the light is more important than the subject at times. Sometimes the light appears unexpectedly – on a cold January day. At other times however it involves planning and timing. For example, the prom in Aberystwyth is an excellent source of ideas as this is where all the elements meet – figures, water and light - and that light is at its most exciting at the end of an Autumn afternoon. Seeing people about their daily life inspires me also –in a café, chatting, especially when light contrasts with the dark colours, revealing the poetry in the ordinary.
