LOUISE MORGAN RCA
I have been visually expressive since childhood, expressing myself through drawing and painting is a way of life for me. I initially trained as a medical doctor; my career path being steered by the economic climate of the time. I continued to draw and paint in the little spare time I had. The death of my younger sister caused me to examine my own life and change my occupation to devote much more time to create art. I eventually started exhibiting, my work in open juried exhibitions. I received positive criticism from artists in the
Northwest Wales area such as Iwan Gwyn Parry RCA, William Selwyn, and Howard Coles.
I was elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2019.
The main of my work is in landscape painting, being inspired by the ever-changing landscape and architectural heritage of North Wales. I am also influenced by Welsh poetry because the prose connects the landscape with the human narrative.
To achieve the creative goal of my inspiration, I work from life and memory. Over the last decade I have adapted my mark making techniques to cope with the environment and to achieve movement and depth in my art. The movement reflecting the changing environment and the depth giving a sense of time passing, and expression of a legacy left by older generations.
I am experimental in my practice and open to using varying media and mixing media to achieve the goal I am seeking. I am an avid plein air artist. The random changes in light and energy are often rapid and chaotic in Snowdonia (where most of my work is based). I have developed a method of working rapidly to capture the scene.
I aim to maximise both the distance and elevation of features in the landscape to achieve the sensation of grandiosity and perception of vast expanses. I am aiming to edge towards the sublime in my landscape painting.
I also have an interest figure drawing, and figures in the landscape. My work is produced in a wide range of media and subject can vary from nudes to candid figures in daily life. I like to indicate gesture, show the moving figure and express mood. I have more recently produced crowd scenes in urban settings.
