DAVID GROSVENOR
It is now over 30 years since I ceased working to deadlines in the world of graphic design and illustration and chose to opt for the more risky option of a career as a professional artist. I had previously studied Fine Art at University where I learned a great deal about technique and working in different media. In these last 30 years I have had the good fortune to be taken under the wing of a number of prestigious galleries who have helped me to develop my confidence and expand my audience. Although I still work in watercolour, a medium for which many hold a great affection and one which I practiced exclusively for a number of years, I have increasingly moved into oil painting and particularly in a style known as ‘a la prima’ in which the artist tries to capture a first, perhaps fleeting, impression of the subject be it landscape or still life. I am particularly fond of flower painting which brings together my love of gardening and painting. However it has been my popular landscape paintings depicting the mountains, rivers and lakes of nearby Snowdonia together with the coastal paintings of Criccieth, my home town, and the nearby Llyn Peninsula for which I am perhaps best known these days. My work is figurative in that it is not abstract but it is far from photographic. I aim to share my appreciation of the beauty of nature by attempting to capture its sometimes fleeting moments.
