Born 1951 near Tamworth Staffordshire. Foundation course at Nuneaton School of Art followed by Diploma course in Graphic Design at Twickenham Collage of Technology. After a brief spell as a designer at the J W Thompson Advertising Agency I began to freelance before starting to paint in the early 1970s. Before work began to sell I supported myself doing gardening, carpentry and building work, things taught to me as a boy by my very practical father. I painted and exhibited during the 1970s then began to illustrate and contribute to practical art books by many different authors and publishers. In the 1980s I began to write and produce my own titles with around 32 published to date. I also began to illustrate books on a wide variety of subjects and painted portraits to commission. My attention turned to the landscape and taught painting courses in Tuscany and Venice. Whilst I no longer work on books I continue to produce articles for The Artist Magazine, run the occasional workshop and concentrate on painting the landscape.
